I've just finished listening to my very own premiere of Tori Amos' new album, called American Doll Posse, and I'm very very very disappointed. Readers who actually know me in real life know that I used to be a huge fan of Tori Amos. I've been to about ten concerts, I've met her about 8 times, I even had lunch with her. After the debacle of her last album The Beekeeper, I really hoped for a great new record, to actually get me to buy a ticket to her show in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam.
It failed miserably. The last time I went to see Tori Amos, on her Original Sinsuality Tour in Ahoy Rotterdam, I knew I didn't like the album, but I thought I'd give her a chance to make it up to me during the live show. She didn't. I disliked the show (mind you, for the very first time since I knew and loved Tori's music) as much as I disliked the album. I promised myself I wouldn't buy a ticket to the next Tori show unless I loved the album the tour would accompany. So, American Doll Posse would be that album. I actually read some nice reviews, so I hoped I would love the album as well. Got my Mastercard ready to surf to the TicketMaster site and get me some tickets. then, after just a couple of songs, I realised me and Tori were just done.
This wouldn't be such a big deal, if it weren't for a whole lot of former Tori fans to be done with her. I'm reading reviews all over the internet telling how much they loved Tori in the past, and how she's just kinda lost it. That's exactly the way I feel. She's lost it. One of my prime influences has lost it, and I'm just so through with her. It's a shame, because a new Tori album used to be a big happening, and now it's just nothing. Maybe she should just give it a rest, take care of her kid and stop bothering us with her useless music.
In the end, I think there's a good reason Tori used to play Ahoy Stadium in Holland, and now she's downgraded to Heineken Music Hall, which isn't even half as large.
