Too bad sometimes old favourites don't live up to their reputation when reviewed years later... This goes especially for movies and television series you may have loved in your youth or teenager years, but look ridiculously outdated in present day. Unfortunately, this happened to me last night.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was on television, obviously to cash in on the renewed Indy hype (because of the Chrystal Skull movie coming up). I remember loving this movie when I was younger, especially cause there was this sense of horror involved (the human sacrifice scene especially comes to mind, but the groos out scenes involving hundreds of bugs are pretty good exemples as well).
Now, imagine how much I was looking forward to seeing it again, after so many years. Well, the very first scene was somewhat of a foreboding of what was to come... Very silly acting and a storyline that was, to say the least, unworthy for a Steven Spielberg movie. Even worse, the special effects weren't nearly as spectacular as they were in my memories.
Am I just getting too old and jaded to rewatch childhood favourites? I still love James Bond movies, so it doesn't appear to be a general trend. I wonder what will happen if I go watch Transformers cartoons again (my absolute favourite when I was a kid)...
