The release of Fitna

Just this evening, the controversial movie Fitna by Geert Wilders has been released through the internet, and I must say, I don't think it really lives up to its hype. I'm sure there will be a big international fuss about it all, but I suppose that's just because everything has been blown so gigantically out of proportions already, there really is no other choice than to cause a big fuss.

So, I'm wondering if there are going to be any more Dutch flag burnings in Afghanistan (it would help by the way if they did some more research and actually managed to get the right flag this time). For that matter, I wonder what kind of riots will take place anywhere in the world because of this overblown piece of propoganda.

Let me get one thing straight: I think it's a good thing Geert Wilders made this movie. I don't think any religion should have the power to threaten our freedom of speech, even though all religions would do just that, given the chance. When it comes to that, I don't see any differences between Chritianity and Islam. The very fact Wilders still dares to release his controversial movie, proves to me there are still people brave enough to fight religion and fantics' threats.

The thing is: it's just not such a good movie. Of course it makes its point, but it's a point we've all heard and seen before. The movie was expected to be so much, but in the end is just some sort of Discovery Channel documentary (which can be a good thing, but not in the context). I think it's a missed chance, cause now we've still got the fuss, without the real discussion.
