I feel like talking about something serious today. As people who know me in real life may already know, I'm absolutely patrified by nuclear weapons, and although I did take some of the Cold War in, I didn't even exist during the Cuban Missile Crisis, so in a way I never really felt the fear of it before myself.
Of course, and that is the reason for this post, all this has changed for not just a bit, because of the growing tensions in the Middle East, Yesterday, Iran proudly announced they had succesfully enhanced uranium, giving them the technique not only to built nuclear power plants, but also, in time, to built the Bomb. This really freaks me out, since the Middle East cannot in any way be classified as one of the more stable regions in this world, and Irans going dispute with Israel could really heaten things up. In a way, I'm frightened by the possibility of a World War 3, concerning nuclear exchange all over the place.
In a way, the United States don't have any right to tell other nations to not prolifarate, since that very country holds over 13.000 warheads in stockpile, but then again, I don't think any nation should have nukes, so the more they are contained, the better. Yesterday I read in various newspapers the US are planning on launching a first strike attack on Iran to make sure their nuclear facilities will be destroyd. This scares me, because no doubt not only Iran will strike back, but also it will fuel the hatred of various terrorists groups, undoubtably causing a major conflict in a region where, well baby, you don't want to have any conflict.
The thing is this: no doubt Iran will attack Israel after an attack from the US, and since we all know Israel is a nuclear power, I believe things could really get out of hand. To me, their is every reason to attack Iran and make sure they won't get the Bomb, but the results of such an attack could end up unthinkable. Israel, already a threatened people, will probably go for an all out attck, making them even a better target for the countries surrounding them and eager to whipe 'em of the map.
I just wonder, where will all this lead us?
