Scary news from the Netherlands. According to Frank Saris, former employee at Energy/research Center Netherlands (ECN), nuclear reactor Petten got very close to a meltdown in November 2001. When power went off in the village of Petten, technicians accidentally switched a cooling machine off, instead of on, causing the reactor core to become overheated. The only thing that prevented the nuclear meltdown, was the fact that regular power came back on quickly.
Sounds extremely scary! If this went wrong, a large part of the Netherlands could have been contaminated with radioactive material. Another reason to get rid of the reactor!
