Guessing the states

My co-workers and I were playing a little game today, where we were trying to name as many American states as possible. I managed to name 45 out of 50 from my head, which I think is a pretty good score for someone not even living in the United States. Afterwards, I looked at the list, and recognised them all, so if I had had a little bit more time, I would have known them all.

After this game, we were wondering if we knew the capitals of all these states, which is a lot harder. I only knew about 20 of them. Here they are (state, then capital):

Alabama - Montgomery
Alaska - Juneau
Arizona - Phoenix
Arkansas - Little Rock
California - Sacramento
